Business Clearance in Cumbria for Offices, Shops and Small Premises

Moving office, closing a shop or refitting a salon? We clear small business premises across Cumbria with minimal disruption, recycle office furniture and IT equipment properly, and can often work outside your normal trading hours.

  • Offices, shops and salons
  • IT recycled as WEEE
  • Out-of-hours often possible
  • Registered waste carrier

When a small business moves, downsizes, refits or closes, the clear-out tends to land on the owner or office manager at the busiest possible moment. Desks, filing cabinets, stock, shop fittings and old computers all need to go, often by a fixed date when the lease ends or the shopfitters arrive. Cumbria House Clearance clears offices, shops and small business premises across the county, working around your business so the job is done with as little disruption as possible.

Premises we clear

Our business clearance service is designed for smaller commercial spaces, including:

  • Offices and serviced office suites
  • High street shops and retail units
  • Hair and beauty salons and barbers
  • Surgeries, clinics and practice rooms
  • Workshops, studios and small industrial units
  • Upstairs offices above shops in town centres

Larger sites such as warehouses, hotels, pubs, holiday parks and care homes are covered by our separate commercial clearance service, which is planned on a different scale.

What we remove

Office furniture and fittings

Desks, office chairs, filing cabinets, meeting tables, shelving, reception furniture and storage units. Usable furniture is passed on for reuse wherever possible, and metal cabinets and frames are recycled.

Shop and salon fittings

Display units, counters, rails, mirrors, salon chairs, backwash units and old stock. Where fittings or stock have resale value, we can offset that value against the cost of the clearance.

IT and electrical equipment

Computers, monitors, printers, phones, cables and small appliances are recycled as WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment). Before we collect, make sure any data you need has been backed up and that you are satisfied about how data on hard drives has been dealt with, as that remains your responsibility as the business owner.

Confidential paperwork

Old client files, invoices and staff records turn up in almost every office clearance. We will not put confidential paperwork in general waste. Instead, we set it aside for you so you can shred it yourself, or we can arrange secure disposal. Either way, you stay in control of anything sensitive. For general guidance on business record keeping and data obligations, an accountant, solicitor or official guidance on GOV.UK is the best starting point.

Working around your business

Few businesses can afford to close for a day just to clear a room. Out-of-hours and weekend working can often be arranged, so a shop can keep trading or an office can stay open while we work. Town centres such as Carlisle, Kendal and Penrith have pedestrianised streets and loading restrictions, so tell us about access, rear entrances and parking when you get in touch and we will plan accordingly.

We are a registered waste carrier and fully insured, and happy to show our details on request, which matters because businesses have their own duty of care for the waste they produce. Our responsible disposal policy explains how every type of item is handled.

Getting ready for the clearance

A little preparation makes the day run smoothly and keeps your costs down. Before we arrive, it helps to:

  • Mark or remove anything staying with the business, such as equipment moving to new premises
  • Back up data and decide how computers and hard drives should be dealt with
  • Gather keys, alarm codes and any landlord or building manager contact details
  • Check lease terms for anything the landlord expects to be left in place, such as fitted kitchens or carpets

If you are not sure what belongs to you and what belongs to the landlord, it is worth checking before the clearance rather than afterwards.

FAQs

Business Clearance – your questions

Can you clear our office outside working hours?

Out-of-hours and weekend working can often be arranged, so your team can keep working or your shop can keep trading while we clear. Let us know your opening hours, any deadline such as a lease end date, and access details for the building when you ask for a quote, and we will do our best to fit around you.

What happens to confidential files and paperwork?

We never put confidential paperwork into general waste. We set it aside so you can shred it yourself, or we can arrange secure disposal for you. That way you stay in control of anything containing client, staff or financial information. If you are unsure how long certain records must be kept, check with your accountant or solicitor first.

How do you deal with old computers and printers?

IT equipment such as computers, monitors, printers and phones is recycled as WEEE, the category for waste electrical and electronic equipment. Before collection, please back up anything you need and make sure you are satisfied with how any data on hard drives has been dealt with, as data protection remains the business owner's responsibility.

Can we offset the value of shop fittings or stock?

Yes, where items have a genuine resale value. Good-quality office furniture, shop fittings, salon equipment and saleable stock can sometimes be offset against the cost of the clearance. Send clear photos of anything you think may be worth something and we will give you an honest view when we quote.

What is the difference between business and commercial clearance?

Our business clearance service is for smaller premises such as offices, shops, salons, surgeries and workshops. Commercial clearance covers larger sites, including warehouses, hotels, pubs, holiday parks, care homes and schools, which usually need more planning and staff. If you are unsure which applies to you, just ask and we will point you in the right direction.
