Who we are

This website is operated by Cumbria House Clearance, part of the Five Star House Clearance family of clearance services. We are the data controller for personal information collected through this website and when you contact us. You can reach us by phone or WhatsApp on 07898 719 509, or through the contact form on this website.

What information we collect

Information you give us

• Quote and contact forms – your name, phone number, any email address you provide, the property address or town, and details of the clearance you need.
• Photos – images of the property you send so we can prepare a quote. These may incidentally show personal belongings.
• Phone calls and WhatsApp messages – your number, the content of messages and any photos or documents you choose to send.
• Reviews – the name or initials, location and comments you submit through our review form.

Information collected automatically

When you visit the website, we collect basic analytics: the pages you visit, the page that referred you, your browser type, your IP address and your approximate country. We use IP addresses for security, such as preventing spam and abuse, and to produce general visitor statistics. We do not use this information to build advertising profiles.

Why we use your information

Under UK GDPR we must have a lawful basis for using personal data. We rely on:

• Steps before a contract and performance of a contract – to respond to your enquiry, prepare a quote, arrange and carry out the clearance and take payment.
• Legitimate interests – to keep the website secure, prevent spam, understand how the site is used so we can improve it, and keep reasonable business records.
• Legal obligation – to keep records required by law, such as waste transfer and accounting records.
• Consent – to publish a review you have submitted. You can withdraw consent at any time.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where necessary with:

• our website hosting provider and email provider, who process data on our behalf to run the site and deliver form submissions;
• the business owner, to whom website enquiries are forwarded so your clearance can be arranged;
• professional advisers or authorities, where the law requires it.

Where these providers process data outside the UK, we expect appropriate safeguards to be in place.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not lead to a booking are kept only as long as needed to deal with them and any follow-up questions, then deleted. Records relating to completed clearances are kept for as long as needed for accounting, waste and legal purposes. Analytics data is kept in summary form, and raw logs are deleted after a limited period. Photos are kept only as long as they are useful for quoting and carrying out the work.
