A garden only needs a couple of wet Cumbrian summers without attention to disappear under brambles, nettles and self-seeded saplings. Add a collapsing shed, a greenhouse with broken panes and a pile of old garden furniture, and it can be hard to know where to start. Cumbria House Clearance clears gardens across the county, taking away the waste and leaving the space clear and usable, whether you plan to sell, let or simply enjoy it again.
What our garden clearance covers
- Green waste: cuttings, branches, brambles, leaves and overgrowth
- Old garden furniture, parasols, barbecues and planters
- Sheds and greenhouses dismantled and removed
- Broken fencing panels, trellis and old timber
- Plant pots, hosepipes, tools and general garden junk
- Rubble and hard landscaping where we can, so please ask
Most gardens need a mix of these, and it is often only once the overgrowth is cut back that the old paving, a hidden compost heap or a forgotten pile of timber appears. We allow for that when we plan the job. Garden clearance is about removing waste and clutter rather than landscaping or regular maintenance. If you need lawns cut every fortnight, a gardener will serve you better; if you need a neglected garden made manageable again, we can help.
Green waste recycled, not dumped
Garden waste is one of the easiest things to recycle, so it makes no sense to put it in landfill. Green waste we collect is sent for recycling, timber from sheds and fences is recycled where possible, and metal from frames, furniture and barbecues goes for metal recycling. Usable garden furniture and tools can go to reuse projects. You can read how we deal with each type of material in our responsible disposal policy.
Rubble, soil and hard landscaping
Heavier materials such as broken slabs, bricks, soil and old rockery stone are a different matter. We can take some hard landscaping waste where we can, but it depends on the quantity and type, so mention it when you ask for a quote and send photos. We would rather be clear upfront than promise something on the day that we cannot deliver.
Sheds and greenhouses
Old timber sheds and greenhouses are usually best taken down by people used to doing it. Glass panels need careful handling, and a rotten shed can come apart unpredictably. We can empty the shed first, dismantle the structure and take everything away. If the contents need clearing too, our garage and shed clearance service explains how we deal with tools, chemicals and stored items.
Preparing a garden for sale or letting
First impressions start at the front gate. A clear, tidy garden helps estate agents' photographs and makes viewings easier, while landlords often need outdoor space cleared between tenants. If you are dealing with a property after a tenancy ends, our end of tenancy clearance page covers clearing the inside and outside together. Executors preparing a family home for sale often combine a garden clearance with a full clear-out of the house.
If you cannot be there
Many gardens we clear belong to empty properties or second homes. Collecting keys or a gate code from a neighbour, solicitor or estate agent can usually be arranged, and we can send photos once the job is finished.
Gardens across Cumbria
We clear everything from small yards behind terraced houses in Workington and Barrow to large cottage gardens in the Lakes and rambling plots attached to farmhouses. Steep or terraced gardens, narrow side passages and lanes with no parking all affect how we plan the work, so mention them when you get in touch. From garden clearance in Penrith to Cockermouth, Kendal and the Furness peninsula, the process is the same: photos, a free quote, then a tidy finish.
