Making sure the right things go

Agree it before the day
We go through what is leaving at the quote stage, usually from photos sent by WhatsApp. Some people prefer to label items with sticky notes or coloured tape, which works well, especially where several family members are involved.
Check again on arrival
Before anything is lifted, we walk through with you or your nominated contact and confirm each room. If you change your mind about a piece on the day, that is fine.
Set aside anything personal
Drawers and cupboards often hold letters, photographs and small valuables. We check as we go and put anything personal to one side for you rather than clearing it.
Working around people who live there
Because someone is usually still living in the home, we keep disruption to a minimum. We protect floors and doorways, clear one room at a time, and keep hallways and stairs free so nobody is left without a route through. If the resident is elderly or unsettled by change, we can work in shorter visits so it feels less overwhelming. We leave the rooms still in use as we found them and tidy up at the end of each visit, so the home feels calmer afterwards rather than more disrupted. In terraced streets in places like Workington or Whitehaven, we also think about parking and loading so neighbours are not inconvenienced.
Downsizing and moving into care
Downsizing is one of the most common reasons for a partial clearance, and it is rarely just about furniture. A move from a family home near Ulverston to a smaller flat can mean letting go of things with decades of memories attached. We do not rush those decisions, and it often helps to measure the new home first so you know which pieces will genuinely fit before deciding what to let go. Items with resale value can be offset against your clearance cost, usable furniture goes to charity shops and reuse projects, and the rest is sorted for recycling, which many people find makes parting with things a little easier.
Single items and awkward pieces
Sometimes the job is just a handful of things: an old three-piece suite, a broken freezer, a wardrobe that will not fit through the new front door.
