A county-wide clearance service
Cumbria is a big county with very different kinds of homes in it: sandstone terraces in Carlisle and Penrith, long terraced streets in Workington, Whitehaven and Barrow, limestone cottages around Kendal and the Cartmel Peninsula, and farmhouses, barns and fell-side cottages almost everywhere in between. We clear all of them, from a single room or loft to a complete family home with its sheds and outbuildings.
Since April 2023 the county has been run by two unitary councils, Cumberland in the north and west and Westmorland and Furness in the south and east. That change makes no difference to how we work, but if you are searching for local information on bins, council tax or tips, it helps to know which council covers the property. You can find more on our Cumberland clearance page and our Westmorland and Furness clearance page.
Towns and villages we clear
About 280 towns and villages have their own page on this site, so you can see how we approach clearances close to you. Some of the places we are asked to cover most often include:
- house clearance in Carlisle and nearby Brampton
- Penrith clearances and the Eden Valley around Appleby-in-Westmorland
- Kendal house clearance and the south Lakes
- Keswick, Windermere and Ambleside in the Lake District
- west coast towns such as Workington, Whitehaven and Cockermouth
- Furness, including Barrow-in-Furness and Ulverston
If your town is not listed here, the A to Z of every town we cover is the quickest way to find it.
How a Cumbrian clearance works
Free quote, usually from photos
Send a few photos of each room, plus the loft, garage, sheds and garden if they are included, by WhatsApp to 07898 719 509. That is usually enough for an accurate, no-obligation quote. For bigger properties we can arrange a visit. We look at volume, access and travel, and point out anything with resale value that could be offset against the cost.
Planning around rural access
Plenty of Cumbrian properties sit down single-track lanes, behind farm gates or up steep fell-side tracks, and older cottages often have narrow stairs and low beams. Telling us about these at the quote stage means we arrive with the right plan. We also keep an eye on the weather over passes such as Shap, Kirkstone and Hartside and plan journeys around it.
Sorting, reuse and recycling
Every load is sorted. Usable furniture and household goods go to charity shops and reuse projects, while metals, electricals, textiles, cardboard, wood and garden waste are recycled. Only what is left goes to licensed waste facilities. We are a registered waste carrier and fully insured, and happy to show our details on request.
Who we help
Much of our work is for families clearing a parent's home, often from a distance, so our bereavement house clearance service is built around care and patience: papers, photographs and keepsakes are set aside, and nothing personal is thrown away without your say. We also clear rentals and holiday lets for landlords, help people downsize, and provide sensitive hoarding clearance at the person's own pace. For a full overview, see all our clearance services.
There are no upfront charges. You pay on completion, once the work has been done to your satisfaction.
