In most cases it is sensible not to sell or give away anything of significant value until the executor has the legal authority to deal with the estate, which in England and Wales usually means a grant of probate. Clearing low-value contents, or securing items before then, is often done with the executor's agreement, but every estate is different. Protecting the value of the estate

Looking after an empty property
Estate properties are often empty for months while probate is granted and a buyer is found. As general advice, executors should check with the home insurer as soon as a property becomes unoccupied, because many policies have conditions or limits for empty homes.
